Learning how to learn – Barbara Oakley

After months of hesitating, I finally signed up for a Coursera plus subscription. The first course I finished was Learning How to Learn – Barbara Oakley.

Honestly, it was rather boring, a lot of theories, definitions, research.

It did offered some lessons (the fundamentals) and we as learners have to apply them in order to fully grasp those how-to.

Concepts like diffuse mode, the importance of environment, sleep, concentration, etc are all over the internet. So this course is likely best for those who never read or heard about effective study methods.

Personally, I would rather re-read “Ultralearning” by Scott Young since it focuses on real-world cases and Scott’s tips are much more practical.

Then again, I think a course/book is enough, the most important step is to just go ahead and learn things, directly.
